Executed primarily in black and white, in a variety of graphite mediums, the drawings capture the immediate energy and rhythmic vitality of contemporary jazz music through rapid, gestural line. Small in format, they are completed on-site in the presence of live jazz performances at various clubs in New York and New Orleans. In their vibrant linearity, they take inspiration from the expressive and improvisatory styles of notable jazz masters, including Joshua Redmond, Wycliffe Gordon, Jason Marsalis, Wes Anderson, and Nicolas Payton. The drawings are unique both as fine art and as documents that immortalize some of the living jazz giants of our time.
